// How often to tune

Tuning
schedule

  • Twice a year — standard recommendation for home pianos in FL
  • Every 3–4 months — churches, studios, teachers, active players
  • After moving — always tune after relocation (give 2–4 weeks to settle)
  • New pianos — 3–4 times in year one as strings stretch and settle
  • Season changes — Florida's humidity swings affect pitch more than northern climates

Piano tuning
FAQ

How often should I tune my piano?
Most pianos need tuning twice a year — once in spring and once in fall. Florida's humidity changes cause soundboards to expand and contract, pulling strings out of pitch. Active instruments or new pianos may need tuning every 3–4 months.
How much does piano tuning cost near Stuart, FL?
Standard piano tuning runs ~$150–$225 depending on the piano's current condition. A deposit (~$75) is required to confirm the appointment. If the piano hasn't been tuned in years, a pitch raise session may be needed before fine tuning — which adds to the total.
What happens during a piano tuning visit?
First I assess the piano's current pitch. If it's close to A440 I proceed to fine tuning (45–60 min). If the pitch is significantly low, a rough pitch raise pass is done first to normalize string tension, then fine tuning follows. I'll also flag any mechanical issues noticed during the visit.
My piano hasn't been tuned in years. Can it still be tuned?
Almost certainly yes. Even a piano untouched for 10+ years can be brought back to pitch — it just takes more work. A pitch raise session brings the strings up to the right tension range, then fine tuning locks it in. The piano will hold pitch better with regular maintenance from then on.
Do you tune both upright and grand pianos?
Yes — uprights (spinets, consoles, studio, full upright) and all sizes of grand pianos. The process is similar; grand pianos take slightly longer due to string access and the greater number of strings per note.
